Access an external app from the mashup

Hello.

I want to be able to access an external app through a mashup. I've seen you can create a button link or an iframe inside a responsive mashup. Where can I find the documentation on the limitations of this iframe? Also is there a way to add either the entire iframe or just the link itself to the mashup via the API?
