Ah, the problem with a little knowledge! Our IT had installed the latest
3D connexion drivers for 64 bit which was at 3.8.10. Unfortunately it
seems that the "SpaceTraveller" is older technology and will not work
with the latest up to date drivers. The upshot is that I removed the
later driver and then loaded an earlier driver of 3.7.22 and even though
the web site implores me to download a later driver on pain of a loss of
my first born, I ignored that and persevered with the earlier outdated
version. One other peculiarity is that the device must not be plugged in
until AFTER all the drivers are downloaded and installed - go figure.
So with Mr. Odious in mind, I'd like to heartily thank all who
contributed in their own way (thank you, thank you, thank you; is three
enough?) to the solving of this problem and may you continue to share
