Have a user trying to add a column to a table with repeat regions, when
we do the repeat region now spans two columns.
Is there a particular technique where I can add a empty column to the
table? I have tried picking on different places along the edge of the
last column.

The only way we have been able to do it is to delete the region add the
column and then recreate the two regions.
