Bicycle chain

i have spent the past 6 hours trying to figure out how to make a bicycle chain. the youtube videos are of no help at all as all the information they show is hard to see. so far i have made a single part of the chain and the chain links. how do i model them onto a chain shape?i know you have to use datum points but when i do the pattern of datum points it make a similar shape to the chain but much smaller.how do i know what the offset of each of my datum points is and how do i make the pattern of datum points the correct size. this is the video reference i have been using as a tutorial. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=THsaz6mZpGA

Hi,

Please have a look at the below mentioned document.

http://www.ptc.com/cs/cs_26/howto/aad1382/aad1382.htm

This suggested technique is applicable in Pro/ENGINEER Wildfire 3.0 & beyond.

Hope this helps.

Cheers!

Please see: http://communities.ptc.com/message/167528#167528 for reference to a chain UDF. It is not a mechanized example but provides the ability to specify actual chain data (i.e pitch). The UDF also produces some analytical data that can be very helpful. See instructions and videos at our site in the link.

Cheers,

Tim
