Drafting Question

I need to add a view to a drawing and the model is a half horseshoe shape (looking down on it).

I need cut a section showing the inside geometry

Is there a way to create a section using a spline as a cutting surface.

I have attached a rough sketch,

Thanks

Hi Rolando,
The cross section you are looking for is the Offset option (default is
Planar). This type of cross section requires you to sketch the cutting
shape so in this case the spline or arc can be done. I think you may have
to have straight ends parallel to your viewing direction and of course you
need to have a viewing direction set up (or that it is a projection of the
section arrow view)

Good luck.

Brent Drysdale,

I am not looking at Pro/ E right now, but I do believe that the elements
that you are hoping to use for this cross section HAVE to be linear. In your
offset sketch these elements will HAVE to be lines. I have used offset
sketches several times. The actual cutting planes have to be linear. The
transitions between the parts of the offset can be arcs.

Hi Michael,
I thought I would check it out (I am running WF5)
You can see in the attached image a rough drawing made of a simple assembly
and showing a spline cross section (note that I have put short straight ends
on the spline).

So in summary it works to make curved cross sections in ProE using the
Offset option.

Brent....

Thanks for the quick reply.

It's not an assembly, it's a single part and a drawing. Do i create the spline in the generic model.

Since i have never made a section like this, can you give me specific instructions.

Thanks

Rolando
