External Cosmetic Thread in drawing

Can anyone help?,

I have seen this topic on the forum a few times but none of the responces seem to help me.

We can not view external threads in our drawings.

I can see internal, on a tapped hole but I have a round extrusion with a thread which I can not see in the drawing. I have removed all the layers and tried the show erase thread but this hasnt helped.

I have attached an image which may help

Any other ideas.

Yeah, it sucks. What I've done is turned the hidden line option in the view(s), did a use edge, then changed the linetype and/or color, and group it to the view, then turn the hidden lines off. this means the sketched entities will move with the view, but will not be parametric if the length of the male thread changes.

I am forwarding an old post that may help.

Hi Paul,

In your drawing, do RMB > Properties > Drawing Options to open your
drawing setup file (aka .dtl file). Select *hlr_for_threads* (hidden
line removal) to yes (default) and *thread_standard* to whatever
standard you are using -- you may need to try different ones to get the
setting you need. When setting to *yes*, that will force the 'hidden
lines' of the thread surfaces to be shown correctly to a particular
standard. By setting it to *no*, the thread edges are displayed as a
surface (purple line). You may want to create these settings in your
standard drawing template so they propagate for all new drawings. I
have included some examples below.

From PTC training material for Creating Production Drawings (WF3)

"If the *hlr_for_threads* is set to 'yes,' thread edges meet ANSI, ISO
or JIS standards for the hidden line display. When the thread edges are
displayed as a circle in the view (where hole axis is perpendicular to
the screen), the display conforms to ANSI standard. The arc display for
the thread edges conforms to ISO standards."

Also, WF4 does now have tapered threads available in the hole tool. If
you have any questions, please feel free to contact me.

drawings the way cosmetic threads do, we had to modify the system colors
-> geometry tab -> quilt edge -> inner and outer edge, to "hidden line".
This is different than the default configuration. So only by pulling
this drawing up on her machine will the threads look correct.
