Hi,
I realize that creo 2.0 (M190) delete old version by it's own. I had file up to version 300(exemple.asm.300) but return to a non version file (exemple.asm) after a save.
First i don't want this version to be delete.
Second, its random .... some files have their version deleted not everyone.
It's really weird,
Thanks for your help
Check your config.pro for the option SAVE_FILE_ITERATIONS
If you want to keep iterations like the the system always has, make sure the value is set to YES.
i don't use this option in my config.pro
is it possible that they chage the default setting in m190
this setting only appears in creo 3.0 in the official documents
Yes, I am on Creo 3 and now that you mention it, I do remember it was a new option.
Are you doing any file backup? That resets all the iterations back to .1
Also, if you are using multiple folders, sometimes the folder "views" don't include the file extension.
I also have seen companies use startup scripts that automatically purge iterations.
very good point but....
i dont do file backup and what it's weird it that the version return to ... no version not even .1
for the folder i check directly in the windows explorer. And for the purge i only use it manually.
i made a test i save like 5 time in a row :
-1rst save reset to no version
-2-3-4-5 increase the version number.
thanks for you time
Check and make sure that the File Explorer or Windows is set so that it shows extensions. You may no have that turned on, but they are there.
In fact i can see files with version and file with no version so i suppose the setting was fine.
Thanks
Maxime,
do your test again.
MH
thanks for the tutorial but my problem is that the version disappear, like i f a had 5 files that represent 5 versions after a save i have 1 file with no version.
Did you follow the steps in artin's tutorial? If not, please do. It's possible that the version is there but your installation of Windows is hiding it when it is *.1 and not when it is *.2, *.3, *.4 etc.
i see file with version (1,2,3,5,4,5,6,) and some without.
if its what your saying i'll see no file with version.1 but i see them.
if i open file without version i cant see in the file history that it have and history and a save like 1 days ago.
files for versions were delete, i only have 1 file left.
Interesting. It does not sound like the Windows setting then, if you are seeing some *.1, thank you for double checking.
From my experience, the first save of a part when created should be *.prt.1, but *.prt is also valid. However, I'm not sure how that file would be created except manually in Windows. I'm not sure how else a prt file could be created without the version extension.
This sounds like something you should open a case with PTC tech support on.
Are you the system administrator for your Creo installation?
Are you using network drives for storage?
Is there anyone else with access to your folders?
Has the system administration mentioned disks are getting too full?
Has the batch file for starting Creo been modified to run a program to purge old files?
Is there a mapkey that's been added or modified that includes purging old files?
Are there multiple locations for files to be stored?
I don't recall ever reading that Creo would just delete files - going back to Rev 13. If there is no other explanation, then perhaps you have a virus program that is deleting files and you just noticed these.
You should be able to go back and look at the trail files and look for cases of opening, closing, and deleting files. If Creo is doing this it will be recorded within Creo, but mapkeys can run OS level commands/batch files and those actions will not be recorded.
I'm surprised that you don't have a Windchill or Teamcenter installation for file management or some other backup system for your data.
The filetype filter for folders is based on an individual suffix basis, though it is not likely your problem. For example, ".1," ".5," and ".8" to ".500" could all be considered known file types and those suffixes hidden, but would show up as repeated, seemingly identical, filenames if there was more than one. Removing a filetype requires changing the Registry to remove those references. PTC install puts in a couple thousand, I think, from .1 to .1999. It's irritating and only makes a difference for drag-and-drop, which I never use.
There is a config option to delete history when using Save-As, otherwise the internal file history should be retained. I think it is a hidden option. purge_history_on_save_copy set to yes
Also see the rest of the discussion about not saving file history: How to clear the audit trail history on the model.
Maxime,
please can you upload picture of Command Prompt windows from your computer showing output of dir command ?

Almost all of the files without a version extension are older, a quick scan shows only one in 2016, some in 2015 most in 2012-2014. Some have newer versions with a numeric extension.
I can't tell you how the version-less files were created, but they weren't created recently and it seems that Creo is properly incrementing them as they are opened and saved.
Maxime,
thanks for publishing file list. All file names are correct.
In case of file names without numerical extension - Creo acts as if these files have .1 extension. For example Creo assumes that a025063.asm has the same meaning as a025063.asm.1

As Doug Schaefer mentioned - nobody is able to explain why some file do not have numerical extensions. Numerical extensions could be removed by custom purge command -OR- by PDM system used at your workplace. Ask your colleagues, administrators, IT, ...
