Yes, create a new layer and add "Solid Geometry" to it. Hide that layer.

in Part mode solid geometry can be suppressed, but not hidden (like datum features).

Martin, this is no entirely true, single solid features can not be hidden in part mode, the entire solid can be hidden! ...as i stated above and Tom was kind enough to capture...
