More on appearance.dmt; WF5 M040

Hi Folks,
Seeing Bob's question raises one for me. I have an appearance.dmt and it is
set in my config.pro as mentioned in some of the post answers to his
question. I used this appearance.dmt for WF4 and was quite happy with it.
My .dmt file is one of the ones I received a year or so ago (Thanks to Ron
Rich, Eric Hill, Damien Castillo, and Kevin Brault for pointing to a Pantone
one)

For WF5 I see that if I open the Appearance Gallery drop box to look at
colours (English spelling) it only shows the colours of the first line then
starts sequentially adding the colour of each sphere to what it should be
taking about half a second per colour. If I wait long enough I see all
colours showing correctly but this takes a couple of minutes of scrolling
down the table or if I close the drop box it stops changing the colours at
that point and will not start. If I hover the mouse pointer over a sphere
that looks default uncoloured grey a pop-up of the the colour name shows and
If I apply that colour to a part then the sphere will show the colour too.

Not a killer but annoying so I would like to fix it if I can. Any
constructive ideas?

Hi Brent,

We are noticing the same issue here as well. It takes about .5 seconds per color to populate the color ball matrix. Like you said... not a killer but annoying.

Bob

Hi again folks,
I had a couple of messages saying they saw the same problem and a couple
asking for a .dmt file. I have attached the one I use which I got from Eric
Hill. I named it appearance_hill.dmt to distinguish it and to recognise the
providence. To use it just rename it to appearance.dmt and have the file in
your ProE start up directory (where your personal confi.pro is).

I think I will try moving the appearance.dmt to the ProE install / text
directory to see if that helps it show all the colour immediately

Brent,

The slow loading of appearances in Wildfire 5 has been identified as a
bug. This is being fixed and will hopefully be available in M090

Thanks

Paul

Hi Brent,

This works very nice - thanks. But like you... the colors take about .5 seconds each to load and with so many colors available, it takes quite a while to fully populate the entire list. The thing I like most about your (hill) list is the fact that each color has a material name color associated with it. This is important to me because I am partially color blind and have in the past limited my color palette to only about 20 - 25 colors that were VERY different from one-another.

Thanks again and happy holidays.

Hi Brent,

I noticed that if you reload the appearance.dmt file the colors are rendered immediately.

You could created a mapkey and use it at the beginning of a WF5 session.

Best regards

Marta
