Repeat Region questions

Why is a parts list - bill of materials called a repeat region in CREO? I can't make sense of it in any context. OK, it is a region on a drawing, but that is pretty obtuse, and repeat, repeat what?!

What is the difference between a record and an index?

When you start the repeat region command, Fix Index is an option, does this mean fix as in "repair" or lock in place?

When you hit the fix index command is asks you to select a repeat region, then you get the next panel Which has fix index commands. This should be an edit menu where the fin unfix are options, the symantics of this menu structure is arcane. Does this drive anyone else nuts too?

The structure of the BOM uses a repeat of the second line to populate the table, assuming the first line is header information. As the items in your assembly vary, the repeat region expands or contracts to capture your components. You only build the table with 2 lines: the header and the repeating information.

An index is the BOM item number, only available in the BOM, if you add it, and can be attached to the component in your drawing for identification.

A record would be a single line in your BOM, one for each component in your assembly.

Fixing a repeat region is to lock the items, usually by index number.

It is old school technology for sure and could use a massive overhaul in command structure and ease of use.

I would like to see the BOM transferred to a spreadsheet for editing, then brought back into Creo for placement on the drawing.

Hi,

maybe PTC Help pages will help you to understand repeat regions ...

Start at https://support.ptc.com/help/creo/creo_pma/r6.0/usascii/#page/detail%2FAbout_Creating_Reports_in_Drawing_Files.html%23
