dimensioning standard

Sorry for the non-pro/e question but...

What standard is it that says you dimension stock thicknesses of sheet, plate, I-Beam...to 4 decimal places unless the fourth decimal is a zero and then you drop it and only the fourth zero?

Maybe it was just a company standard or maybe, just maybe it's all just a bad dream.

Hey Stephen,

I don't know what is in the sheet and plate standards, but I just happen
to be looking through an ASME standard for a fraction dimension across
corners of a hex nut and ran across this note.
