I there a way to adjust the "default" datum planes when you save it to an .stl file? I need to adjust the position of the part for back plotting.

As far as I know, stl files do not have datum plane information but they do have a coordinate system. You might be able to use that to do what you want - i.e. ensure the geometry is in the correct geometry relative to the default coordinate system.

If you bring an stl file into an existing (blank) part (rather than importing directly) you will get the option to choose which coordinate system to align to. The command is "Insert -> Shared Data -> From file".

You can put a csys in your part then when you export stl you can pick this
newly created csys and your part will be there.
