All my replies this morning (from those of you in the northern hemisphere) stated that regeneration is the trigger for .crc file creation.
This makes sense and I was surprised when this didn't appear to work for me. I think it may have been the assemblies release level in the data management system preventing a "real" regen.
I guess the forced insert mode and then cancel is just another way of doing this anyway and that is what finally created the .crc file for me.
