Magnetic field

The MIT Science of Baseball program encourages students to learn baseball-related math and physics and then apply what they've learned out on the ballfield.

The students typically learn why a curveball curves, a knuckleball knuckles, and how the force-velocity curve affects muscles and the human skeleton.

Can any member illustrate/demonstrate some of the math involved in baseball?

Interesting article on a theme - "Designing a Baseball Cover" by Richard B. Thompson (Thompson, R. "Designing a Baseball Cover." Coll. Math. J. 29, 48-61, 1998). The author of article does in the end a note, about that "All such work in this paper was done with the software package Mathcad Plus 6.0".

Dan, hello!

Here you can find a Mathcad file with a solution of initial value problem - "Find the baseball trajectory, given the release velocity and angle":

Same calculation on Mathcad Server:

Vladimir, that article was extremely helpful. I attached it for reference

Here are Richard B. Thompson's original Mathcad files updated to Mathcad 15.
