Mathcad 5.0.0.0 does not start (only background process) after Windows 10 1809 Update

The only thing that changed is the 1809 Update on my OS so I guess that's the cause but I don't know how to fix it.

Also Mathcad 4 does not work either.

Things I've done to try and fix:

- Delete and restore/ delete Mathcad related stuff in my AppData folder in Local and Roaming and Temp

- Reinstall countless times on different hard drives (both version 5 and 4)

- Turn off UAC/ Antivirus before installation and/or completely

- Checked to see if Mathcad window was just hidden, it wasn't

- Install all the vcredist, msxml and .net framwork stuff

This all applies to Mathcad 4 and 5 which worked flawlessly before the Windows 10 -1809 Update

I have the student version and refreshing license does not work either.

The logo appears, fades away and only the background process is left in task manager.

Considering that you've tried everything that's known to correct such problems (to be sure, check: https://community.ptc.com/t5/PTC-Mathcad/Mathcad-Prime-4-0-doesn-t-start-anymore/m-p/492614#M174617), the only thing left is to contact PTC's customer support.

Success!

Hi,

MathCAD needs MS .Net (maybe 4.6, 4.7 ? I am not sure).

Thank you for the help but none of these work sadly.

  • I already installed all the .NET stuff and I'm pretty sure they're part of Windows 10 natively anyway.
  • I tried to install the fix but it does nothing. Trying to install just tells me I already have it.
  • I even tried to disable and enable .net in "Turn on/off Windows features" with restarting in between as that is supposed to repair them.

Like I said it was working fine before the big update (1809) on Windows 10.

I feel like the only solution is reinstalling Windows 10 or uninstalling the 1809 update but that is not an option for me right now..

Try to run Event Viewer (eventvwr.msc) and check whether there are any error messages that give additional information about the failure. Start with Windows Logs\Application log.

Mathcad Prime 5.0.0.0 works fine on Windows 10 Version 1809. We were not able to reproduce the problem. There must be another or additional circumstance that cause the issue.

Rero2, if you still experience the problem please contract technical support.

Thankyou  MSheykman or screening this forum!

It's been a long time since someone from PTC staff turned up here.

Thank you for your help but I was not able to find the cause, sadly.

I had to reinstall Windows completely and it is working fine now.

Just to clarify I did not change anything in my operating system, the only thing that happened was the 1809 and it just stopped working.
