Where is all legacy Mathcad stuff ( Electronic Books, free Add-ons for Mathcad 8, 2000, 2001, 2001i) ?
Much of it was/is loadable even by newer and current Mathcad editions !
I did not find anything here, also Google does not find anything special if I look for "Mathcad Electronics Books".
Btw, I am still using Mathcad2001i - no software activation, enough math power -, for my own internal development purpuses. It runs well on W2k and WinXP.
If an employer or project owner asks me to do something with Mathcad, I expect a current version of course :-), thats the business.
With the newer Mathcad versions, it is still possible to save in the Mathcad 2001i format (but not in Mathcad 2001 format, or older ) :-).
Sincerely
Rolf

With the newer Mathcad versions, it is still possible to save in the Mathcad 2001i format (but not in Mathcad 2001 format, or older ) 🙂
That is not quite correct. MC11 will save back to version 6. MC13 will save back to version 2001i. MC14 and 15 will save back to version 11 (I don't recall what MC12 could do, and can't be bothered to install it just to find out)
Richard, MC12 saves back to Mathcad 2001 -- I just checked.
I seldom use my copy of MC12, since MC13 seemed to be much more stable when it came out. And I continued to rely on MC13, even after MC14 came out, because MC14's print preview crash really ticked me off. I only started using MC14 when the M020 release came out and fixed the print preview crash.
Actually, the only reason I keep MC12 around now is to be able to compare its features with those of its predecessors and successors, as you are doing now.
I use MC11, for some legacy worksheets that will not work in later versions (due to SUC, the demise of the Numerical Recipes Function Pack, and a couple of other changes that occurred going to 12), and for the Maple symbolic engine. I use MC13 only for the Maple symbolic engine when the results are too large to display in MC11, and for testing/comparison. I use MC15 (and prior to that MC14) for everything else. The only thing I would ever use MC12 or was testing/comparison, so last time I went through the long and tedious process of installing all the Mathcad versions I couldn't be bothered with 12
The final question is:
How to travel from the
http://communities.ptc.com/community/mathcad
to this menu level
http://www.ptc.com/appserver/mkt/products/resource/list-books.jsp?&rccg=888&nav=5279
, by what link or series of pages with links ?
So if I press "home" on
http://www.ptc.com/appserver/mkt/products/resource/list-books.jsp?&rccg=888&nav=5279
I get to
http://communities.ptc.com/community/mathcad
but how to get back ?
I am shure that not just me has a problem with that.
Thanks in advance.

I don't think you can be honest.

There seems to be an error when you click 'home', which doesn't allow you to return to the previous page. To be honest I have tried clicking the 'home' link a couple of times and it only works sporadically. How about not pressing the home button, thus eliminating the need to press the back button

Sorry to say the question again, *** to the webmaster of PTC and the PTC moderatorrs ***
If I don´t use a deep link as I was told here,
how should customers go from the Matcad community main page
http://communities.ptc.com/community/mathcad
to the ressource page with the electronic books, and all the other links to the "Mathcad Resource Page" ?
There is some link "missing" AFAIK.
This is not an academic question, but a question how to use this website.
Indeed, I asked the question orignally, so that other users can "find" it.
Sincerely
Rolf
how should customers go from the Matcad community main page http://communities.ptc.com/community/mathcad
to the ressource page with the electronic books, and all the other links to the "Mathcad Resource Page" ?
See the last post in this thread:
http://communities.ptc.com/message/151610#32554
(which does not answer your question, it just reinforces your point).
Hi Rolf,
PTC is phasing out the Mathcad Resource Center that houses Mathcad ebooks. As you noted, the navigation for the resource center is not intuitive enough nor is it searchable.
We are migrating the ebooks over to here, PlanetPTC Comunity, so that they are once again indexed and searchable, both by search engines like Google and the community's own Search functionality..
I ask that you be patient as we work through this exercise.
Thanks,
-Dan
PTC got Mathcad in 2006.
Now its 2011.
How long should the customers wait, just for a properly designed website which offers all free valuable goods which were offered before the merge ?
In fact, its a good approach to learn Mathcad from the sample files and E-Books,
to see "big applications" instead of just learning commands by the Mathcad manual and the tutorials.
Sincerely
Rolf

If you call

you can access all other menu items
If you call

you see the SAME page, but you cannot access all other menu items, it looks as if there is no "real" contents if you click on it.

Additionally, where is the Home URL of the "Mathcad LIbrary" ?
Smith Chart
http://www.ptc.com/appserver/wcms/standards/textoimgothumb.jsp?&im_dbkey=61423&icg_dbkey=888
says that it is part of the "Mathcad LIbrary",

http://www.ptc.com/appserver/mkt/products/resource/list-dtav.jsp?&rccg=888&nav=5283
or do you expect to find it at another place ?
Ok I asked the webmaster about this, too, now...

I have been moving free E-books and user files from the online Resource Center on the PTC website to this community so everything is in one place and easily searchable.
Mona
Mona,
where are the E-Books and the other stuff now, "in the community" if you moved it ( since yesterday ?! ) ?
I don´t see anything
And please answer the question about the workflow ( how to got from x to y ),
and PLEASE forward the discussion thread to the webmaster, so that he/she can fix the missing and broken links.
I already informed the webmaster,
but I don´t think that something will happen,
as the bad situation obviously lasts since many months...
Somehow, Mathcad is still struggeling with a post-merger syndrome ( of PTC, which consumed Mathcad's owner Mathsoft )....
Sincerely
Rolf
Rolf,
I haven’t moved everything, I’m still in the process of moving content and E-books, and posting links to published books that have Mathcad in them.
The old online Resource Center is no longer being updated, so it looks like someone removed the direct links to the main page.
If there is something specific that you want, let me know, and I’ll look for it. I have been moving current content first.
Mona
Mona,
1)
Tell me how to visit
http://www.ptc.com/community/free-downloads.htm
from
http://communities.ptc.com/community/mathcad
Really, I don´t know.
The page is really-really "new" to me, so probably for 99% of existing and new customers.
So how should people learn about this page ?
2)
http://www.ptc.com/community/free-downloads.htm
has a broken link a the top
Resource Center

so indeed all Resource Center functinality is BROKEN.
3)
The mentioned page
http://www.ptc.com/community/free-downloads.htm
does not contain any links or contents of
http://www.ptc.com/appserver/mkt/products/resource/list-books.jsp?&rccg=888&nav=5279
, so no sample files, no electronic books ect.
4)
The contents of the resource center is a valuable must-have and serious plus-points for Mathcad !
Whiy do you, Mathcad, "hide" it from the audience, in this way.
Ok a post-merger syndrome..
Mona,
please tell your webmaster, that the Mathcad Resource center is totally broken !!
Sincerely
Rolf
Rolf,
The Communities is primarily for users to talk to each other and share worksheets. It is not a place for PTC to post our software and other offerings. I've been moving content from the old online Resource Center, since much of it was supplied by users. The other content is linked from the PTC website.
You asked:
1)
Tell me how to visit http://www.ptc.com/community/free-downloads.htm
from
http://communities.ptc.com/community/mathcad
The free downloads page is a link from the PTC website support page: http://www.ptc.com/support/index.htm

"There are a number of sample files and electronic books that I have already moved to this Community site."

I've been moving content from the old online Resource Center, since much of it was supplied by users. The other content is linked from the PTC website."
I really don´t understand you, your behaviour and the tone of your speech is inadequate. Its customer unfriendly.
Where are the Elektronic books and sample files, at the Community Site ?
I don´t find anything, besides at the "broken" Ressource Center
http://www.ptc.com/appserver/mkt/products/resource/list-books.jsp?&rccg=888&nav=5279
What I find is at
http://communities.ptc.com/community/mathcad
that there sub-communities, and that each sub-community has a "document" section.
But I don´t see that the Electronic Books are moved to these document sections,
especially its time-consuming to visit all the communities, document section, and then NOT to be able to check if one of the electronic books from the ressource center was properly moved to this directory.
So did you move the Electronic books from
http://www.ptc.com/appserver/mkt/products/resource/list-books.jsp?&rccg=888&nav=5279
to which sections, under wich names ?
Did you move all the sample files from the old ressource center to these document sections ?
Just give us an answer, and we can of course then check if you are right.
This would be VERY helpful for (new) users, as I said, that the Electronic Books are a PLUS for Mathcad users.
2)
Especially please tell me, how to navigate from Top
http://communities.ptc.com/community/mathcad
to this sample file
Smith Chart
http://www.ptc.com/appserver/wcms/standards/textoimgothumb.jsp?&im_dbkey=61423&icg_dbkey=888
Because of course I would like to find OTHER files, of this kind, the same way.
If it is in the community document sections, then in which sub-community section ?
Btw, it contains a broken link
Mathcad Library
http://www.ptc.com/resourcecenter/mathcad
which just loads
"Access Forbidden
http://www.ptc.com/resourcecenter/mathcad/

b) or the Resource Center

which is so far the ONLY URL where users can download E-Books and sample files, easily.
but it loads
4)
What I really ask PTC is to fix the website, so that it is easy to find sample files and the electronic books.
Mona, why don´t you forward this thread to the webmaster, so that he/she can fix all the issues ?
Mona, I am not shure if you should not be replaced on your job by a more friendly staff member.
5)
It looks as if Mathcad is not a major product of PTC, as we customers are here treated as idiots, if we tell broken links ( the webmaster did not answer btw ). Many other users can tell the same, with other companies and mergers, and the products taken over by the merge....
Mathcad 8 .. 2001i, 11 ... 15 are all fine products.
The online service seems to be rotten, both the website with all the broken links, and the unfriendly support ( Mona ).
Mona, do you have a complain service where I can complain about you and the webmaster ?
Sincerely
Rolf

Instead of being obnoxious why don't you just clarify what you meant?
Mona: he's referring to the breadcrumb trail at the top left of the screen:
The online service seems to be rotten, both the website with all the broken links, and the unfriendly support ( Mona ). Mona, do you have a complain service where I can complain about you and the webmaster ?
The person that's being the most unfriendly, in fact rude, is you. There's never any excuse for rudeness on a professional forum.
Rolf,
I am trying to be helpful. This community site is for users to share with each other. I've been posting things that I think users will find helpful, as well as moving content from the old resource center to here. I have not yet moved everything. We no longer maintain the online Resource Center, which is why links to it are not on support or product pages.
I actually did not see the breadcrumb link that Richard showed, since I was looking for a link on the page. I will report that to the webmaster.
The E-books that I moved over to the Community site are either under Mathcad Usage, or the appropriate topic, such as Mechanical Engineering. If you know one that you can't find, let me know.
This Community is much more usable than the old online Resource Center. I tried searching for Smith Chart on the old Resource Center, but that search goes through all of ptc.com and didn't find the file you reference. If you search for Smith Chart on the Community, you will only find things posted in the Community,.
I'll move the Smith Chart file you linked to under the Electrical Engineering forum.

Mona

Mona,
1)
The E-Book
Pathcalc: Microwave Radio Path Toolbox (version 9) by Lawrence F. Lederer, P. E.
at
where is this in the Community ?
Its Electrical Engineering ( Information Technology ),
but at
http://communities.ptc.com/community/mathcad/electrical_engineering?view=documents
I don´t find it. I assume that much more is missing. Its not my task to check all E-Books, and to complain again and again,
its up to Mona, as she gets paid for that.
2)
"This Community is much more usable than the old online Resource Center."
Not at all.
a)
The new search engine is a plus, ok.
But this does not help if the data is not transfered from Resource center to that Community.
b)
But especially now as all files are sorted by topics, it takes many clicks to go from one document area to the next. Remember that mechanical engineering and electrical engineering have common fields, like "control theory"
and some topics might be unter "mathematics",
and so it would be useful to have a QUICK overview about all E-Books ( which are the TOP downloads ) and the additional small example files.
3)
"I actually did not see the breadcrumb link that Richard showed, since I was looking for a link on the page."
Are you dumb ??!
The "breadcrump" IS a link.
I told you EXACTLY what I complained. There is no excuse for you.
In fact its sophisticated to differ between links and breadcrumbs, or to know what breadcrums are at all. I don´t use the word.
In simple english, I am NOT native english, its all links whch causes a different page to load ( on a link, I may even decide to load it in a different tab or window, in opposite of a navigation with "buttons".
4)
"I'll move the Smith Chart file you linked to under the Electrical Engineering forum."
Thanks, but what about moving all OTHER files still linked this way ?
Of course I can´t find out, as I have no access to the internal datastructure.
It was a "random hit", as I know the link since many years.
There must be more !
5)
"If you search for Smith Chart on the Community, you will only find things posted in the Community"
I ask you to transfer ALL legacy files from the ressource center, the single files and the E-Books to the document sections of the community center.
In the name of all customers and Mathcad users. Its "the documented brain" of all Mathcad users ( sorry for my bad english and lack of knowlege of better idioms ).
Please name all E-Books with the name "Electronic Book ( E-Book )" and sample files as "Sample files".
In fact, much of your documents area contains references to literature, instead of "big things" like the E-Books.
I don´t want the E-Books and old files "mixed" with new discussion contents, as by this the E-Books are "on the last page" and not at the top.
Normal community discussions contributions are something different than the quality of E-Books and sample files of the Resource Center.
Or where did you publish the E-Books and sample files ?
*********************************
At the Electric Engineering sections, it seems that all your documents refer to paper books, but not to E-Books and sample files.
Some other users there posted Mathcad sample files in the document sections, so it might be the right place.
Did you somehow miss to transfer all "electric engineering" files ??
Btw, I am electric engineer, so I focus on that.
*********************************
What else do you expect ?
I mean its now many years ago that Mathcad came to PTC.
What is this for a company culture, to be such unfriendly with precious user generated contents like the sample files and the E-Books ?
Btw, for the first few years, exactly the Ressource center was available at its old mathcad.com locations :-).
So after some time of absence, due to other tasks in my life, I now came back to see what happens since then, and reconstructing all old sources of knowledge ( even though I did a deep almost full download befor mathcad.com was killed ).
6)
Richard wrote
"The person that's being the most unfriendly, in fact rude, is you."
Not at all.
The question about E-Books was asked in the past, without any reaction.
So I can´t blame it on "oh sorry we did not know about the rotten structure of our website".
And a webbased community agent who tells me that she does not find a link as its a breadcrum, and she did not look for breadcrums, though the breadcrum is a link ( you can open a new window or tab by clicking on it with Firefox ),
should be FIRED from her seat, IMMEDIATELY.
Its very unfriendly and an *** affront ****.
And if we don´t find the E-Books and sample files with electric engineering background in the community sections,
though Mona claims to have transfered them, this is *** affront *** too.
7)
Btw, what about the E-Books which were "bonus" for registration of Matcad 8.. 2001i,11, in good old Mathsoft days,
and which were not user contributions ?
I would be pleased if you publish it in the community, documents sections too.
Sincerely
Rolf
Richard wrote "The person that's being the most unfriendly, in fact rude, is you."
Not at all.
You could simply have clarified where the link was. Instead, you chose to use insulting language and call Mona "dumb". I notice that you did it again in your last post. In what way is that not rude? Name calling and cheap insults have no place on a forum meant for discussion between professionals.
Sorry to say,
I named EXACTLY both the page URL and the broken link.
Btw, to find such links, you might open the page as source code, and then with the search function, you can easily find any link, no matter as what text it is displayed.
So if I complain broken links, I EXPRECT a different reaction that "there is nothing broken".
***************
Such behaviour I name "dumb". In fact, its ignorance. Ignorance in the job is a sign for incompetence. People who are incompetent in his/her job are "dumb".
***************
In fact, I now mentioned MANY broken links.
So "rotten" is the right attribute for this website.
PTC is not Microsoft ( Microsoft has so many contents, so its bad but there MIGHT be broken links ).PTC has just a handful of products, and its website is not a universe or cosmos like microsoft.com, oracle.com, ibm.com.
I don´t expect Mona to fix it, but I expect Mona to contact the webmaster.
I don´t expect *** affront ***.
Especially as an improvement of the website and its contents would help PTC to keep its customers ( as friends ).
Sincerely
Rolf
So if I complain broken links, I EXPRECT a different reaction that "there is nothing broken".
She didn't say "there is nothing broken", she said she didn't see it. And, regardless, it's not an excuse for cheap insults. Throwing cheap insults at people demeans you, not them.
Now now!!!!!
Mike
Mona,
As a suggestion, I would like to see a forum topic called "resource center". Much like the older resource center, all e-books, etc could be placed there. This will avoid the hunting and pecking in the individual topics (i.e. Mathcad Usage, or the appropriate topic, such as Mechanical Engineering). I will use one of your posts as an example (http://communities.ptc.com/message/157362#157362). I believe that a single point to search would be convenient. As a Mechanical, I frequently use civil, structural, and other handbooks. Not to mention the handbooks that are or have been developed outside of PTC (i.e. http://dynamassist.com/)
I'll have to discuss this with others. My concern is that there is a lot of content on the old Resource Center, so you'd have the same issue if all the sample files and all the E-books were in one forum. Perhaps we can do something with just electronic books. The Community search feature does go through all the forums.
Thanks for pointing out the electronic books at http://dynamassist.com/. I'll see if he wants to post them here as well.
Best,
Mona
What would be possible for the e-books would be a single page that links to all of them, such as has been done here:
http://communities.ptc.com/docs/DOC-1157
Maybe Dan could then put a link to that page right on the Mathcad forum home page
I'll be happy to Richard. Anything for my passionate Mathcad members.
-Dan
Dear Mona,
My name is Larry. I am 65 and want to learn how to program mathcad 15. Are their any pdf files that explain the steps in programming. I bought a copy of mathcad prime 3 however I could not find much free information that gave an intuitive guide in simple steps or explanation. I just finished a calculus course from coursera and would like to program a riemann sum under a curve. Werner sent me a worksheet for riemann sums but it was daunting. I guess I need to know where to start.
Thanks
Larry
