You can submit an "Academic Support Request" here: http://support.ptc.com/appserver/support/academic_case_logger/academic_case_logger.jsp
Also "Mathcad Prime Student Edition" version available for purchase: https://store.ptc.com/store/ptc/en_US/list/ThemeID.21925700/categoryID.10011800
It is true.
After this trial period, your Prime license is free (for life!, that's how PTC advertises it), but Prime will turn into Prime Express, which means that many features are no longer available: Symbolics, Programming, Special functions, many Statistical functions etc....
But if you only need simple mathematics (calculation and 2-D plotting) you might be just fine with Prime Express.
And even some more advanced features are possible, with some effort. Have a look here:

if you want to explore what is possible with Prime Express.
Success!

Educational versions of Prime are not free but PTC sells them at a much lower price ( about $ 60 for a 1 year use).
You may contact your university - chances are they have a special agreement with PTC and are able to give you a free edu license or entitle you to get a one year licence for as low as $ 10.
As Luc already wrote your full trial version will turn into a limited version, where a lot of advanced functions are blocked. You can still open and display sheets created with the full version which made use of some advanced functions and see the results, but you won't be able to recalculate this sheet.
