Is there any way to open a CRO 2.0 created 3D Model with Wildfire 4.0?

Alexander,
you can use GRANITE-based Cross-Release Interoperability for PTC Creo, see http://support.ptc.com/products/granite/gcri/index.htm. Unfortunatelly you will not see all model features in WF4. You will get dumb geometry.
Also I am not sure if this functionality works with Student/Academic licenses.

No, Creo is never backwards compatible. Depending on the need, you can always create a STEP file of the part or assembly and import it into the older version. This will of course drop all the features, dimensions and constraints of your source geometry.
