Do you have write access to the Start In folder?

The default starting folder is probably defined as your Home folder in Windows.

If that Start In folder has your company start part templates in it, it would probably be read only.

Are you using Windchill or another PDM system to manage your files or just native disk filing? This may have a factor on how things work.

We define our start In folder to be c;\PTC_User\%username%. We use Windchill so in Creo the default working directory is defined as the user's workspace. They still have the option of selecting Working directory which is c;\PTC_User\%username%.

I actually do have that, and I can even copy a config file to the start-up folder (or rather, the folder Creo keeps opening). However, the problem remains with the working directory, which just won’t save no matter what I try. I don’t know what else to do. And also, the company I work for doesn’t use Windchill and the job needs me to always change the working directory but not every time i start creo. At another company I worked for that did use Windchill, there were no issues at all.

Do you have access to this?

I do not have Windchill.

Or maybe this one:

This seems to be a common thread:

If you want to force Creo to always open files from a particular location, take a look at the config option file_open_default_folder.

Thank to yall my problem was not put the folder inside my user,  now when put the path C:\Users\user name\Desktop\PTC CREO\company\(Loc)Start_files worked very well. Thanks very much to yall

As a system administrator, let me say that you should NOT be using the Desktop for your file location. Loading the desktop slows down system performance when you log in. You would be better off creating the PTC CREO directly under your username: C:\Users\user name\PTC CREO\company\(Loc)Start_files

oh thats new for me, thank you so much. i will do that

i know i said that worked well. but only work right after i select the path. but when i try to close and open again, it came backs to the default up there in the screeshots, i dont know what to do, i tried every thing that i found.

@ND_10940562 What are you expecting it to do?

I think you are expecting something that is not correct.

Creo will load a config file from several places:

1. <loadpoint./common files/text/config.sup

2. <loadpoint./common files/text/config.pro

3. start - in folder specified in the icon (see image below)

i am expecting that creo do open the path i chose, but only works on the first try. Like if now i select a path, and open the creo works very well. but tomorrow doesnt work anymore, it came back to the:

The option you need is file_open_default_folder working_directory

You mentioned you had already set it.

Close Creo and  then restart Creo. Then look at File - Options -configuration editor, then change the drop down arrow to In Session (see screenshot), scroll down to make sure it is set to working directory. If it is not, then you didn't save your config or you saved it to the wrong place that doesn't automatically load. In your first screen shot, you show a config.pro file in the common files/text folder. It is possible you don't have write access to that folder. That config.pro file is typically used by companies as the default settings for everyone and then the user modifiable config.pro is in your start in folder.

You can use the drop down arrow in screenshot below to see all the config files loaded.

First thing to do when having problems with loading a config.pro is to look at the configuration editor and check what config.pro files have loaded.

If there is config.pro in the "start in folder", it should load.

Mine shows the 3 configuration files that load each time I start creo.
