Using the EXTERNAL_NAME license file attribute

General admin question:

All Creo Parametric Installation and Administration guides have a section about the contents of the FlexLM license file and talk about EXTERNAL_NAME attribute in some of the license features. I attempted to edit my license file to use the EXTERNAL_NAME as described but it only caused the feature to become unavailable.

Has anyone gotten it to work as described in the guides?

Thanks!

Hi,

please play uploaded video.

Thank you!  This video explains it better than any PTC documentation ever has.

Hi,

my video shows different way of EXTERNAL_NAME change.

Page 83 in Creo Parametric ® 10.0.3.0 Installation and Administration Guide contains the bug - quotation mark is missing at the end of vendor_info key. See below.

Thank you for clarifying this.  It is not clear that the EXTERNAL_NAME attribute is part of the vendor_info key.  Such a difference a missing character can make!

This is even easier than your video!  I think this typo is present in every version of every Installation and Administration Guide for every software product that includes this chapter on ptcstatus.bat, going all the way back!  There's got to be a SPR for this?

Hi,

if you feel that the error needs to be fixed, then contact PTC Support. I won't do it.

Martin Hanák

@rfaulk

Thank you for letting us know. We will get this fixed in the Installation Guide.
