Image upload functionality from local storage in a mashup.

I have a mashup container where i want to have the functionality which allows the user to simply select the file and then the file gets displayed in the image widget. I tried different thing but pretty confused about the bindings which will be there for this specific functionality. This is the skeleton of what i am trying to achieve:

I checked the ticket where the user has provided a widget extension, but while importing it fails to validate and throws some error "Extension Exception: java.util.zip.ZipException: zip END header not found" .

 

Is there a way, without using a custom extension to achieve the desired file upload Functionality, something like this:
