Some mobile apps become unresponsive or lag after connecting through IoT devices

Hi everyone,

I’ve noticed that a few mobile apps (especially those that stream or load dynamic content) start lagging or sometimes stop responding when my phone is connected through certain IoT devices — like smart routers or connected displays.

The internet connection itself seems stable, and other apps run fine. The slowdown mostly happens while watching longer videos or syncing data with connected devices.

I’ve already tried:

Restarting the phone and router

Reconnecting to Wi-Fi

Disabling background apps and clearing cache

Could this be related to how IoT devices handle data routing or background syncing?
Would appreciate any suggestions or settings that helped others improve app performance with connected devices.

Thanks in advance!

Hey, I’ve experienced something similar! When my phone was connected to a smart display and router combo, some apps (like YouTube and a few others) would also lag or freeze for a few seconds.
I tried turning off “Smart Connect” and changing the DNS settings on my router — that actually helped a bit. The performance became smoother, though an occasional delay still happens sometimes.

Maybe give that a try and see if it helps?

I’ve also experienced something similar, particularly while using Vuforia Studio Experiences on mobile devices connected with thingworx. Occasionally, the app suddenly closes in the middle of use — it feels like a crash and throws us back to the home screen.

At other times, the experience freezes or becomes unresponsive, and we have to manually close and restart the app for it to work again. The issue doesn’t seem to be tied to network speed but rather to how the app interacts with connected devices or handles resource-intensive scenes.

It would be great to know if anyone has found stable configuration or network settings that reduce these random crashes or hangs, especially when using IoT-linked environments.

Hi Vivek, thanks for the reminder. I’m still going through the replies and checking a few things on my mobile app as well. If I find any solution that works, I’ll definitely update the thread.

Hi everyone.

The lagging or unresponsiveness of mobile apps when connected to certain IoT devices could be related to how these devices manage data routing and background syncing. Here are some potential factors and suggestions to improve app performance:

Data Routing and Bandwidth Allocation: IoT devices may prioritize certain types of traffic, which can lead to reduced bandwidth for streaming or data-intensive applications. Check if your router has Quality of Service (QoS) settings that allow you to prioritize traffic for specific apps or devices.

Network Congestion: If multiple IoT devices are connected and actively using the network, this can lead to congestion. Try disconnecting some devices temporarily to see if performance improves.

Firmware Updates: Ensure that your smart router and any connected displays have the latest firmware updates. Manufacturers often release updates that improve performance and fix bugs.

Wi-Fi Band Selection: If your router supports dual-band (2.4 GHz and 5 GHz), try connecting your phone to the 5 GHz band, which typically offers faster speeds and less interference.

Background App Management: While you may have already disabled background apps, consider checking if any IoT device apps are running in the background and consuming resources.

Network Settings Reset: If issues persist, consider resetting your network settings on your phone. This can resolve any misconfigurations that might be affecting performance.

Monitoring Tools: Utilize network monitoring tools to analyze traffic and identify any bottlenecks or issues with specific devices.

Hi @EW_14385505

I looked through your question, but I did not observe something related to either ThingWorx or Vuforia.

Is this a generic question, more related to how IOT network traffic impacts applications, or something related to a PTC product?
