We have the same problem.
Firefox does not have that problem. We have some users asking for a
policy exception to use the embedded mozilla browswer for proE.
We also found that if you use the Chrome plug in for IE 8 in the second
window that this problem goes away, too, but that plug in is not supported
for the embedded ProE browswer.
Moreover, IE 8 is slow for everything. Outside of ProE HTML BOM viewing
is faster with either the Chrome plug in or Firefox.
Our problem is that IT will not support Firefox.
We actually have a 6 Sigma project now looking at options for this and
overall browser performance.
In the meantime, the workaroud is that while ProE is running on a desktop
in an IE 8 browser, a user can use our Citrix client to access a separate
IE 8 instance and run that. Users hate that, however, since saving files
and uploading files is more difficult since the Citrix client is not
defaulted to the user's PC desktop.
PTC support said that it is an IE 8 issue and they can't do anything about
it. We have not seriously considered trying to make Microsoft fix it,
however, so we are looking at other options now.
