In case you don't have access to the article to which Martin linked:
What is unplaced/ ? How does that happen? either it will not assemble or will assemble with assumptions or fully assemble. Not understanding what unplaced/included is.
If you just bring in a model in an assembly but don't apply any placement constraints to locate it in the assembly, it's put at some sort of default place (probably using the "default" coordinate systems but I don't care 'cause it's bad practice so I dont' do it). These components are considered "unplaced" and the model tree uses an icon for them to represent this.
Possible scenario where one would purposely use this: you want to include some "spare parts" such as bolts, extra lenses, whatever. You bring them into the assembly in this way so they'll show up on the Bill of Materials, but don't really care where they are located in 3D space.
It's really an "include" component, a way to get an item on a model without it showing up in the 3D. It's "included" but not assembled.
Thanks SW,
Could you provide a genuine scenario where this approach is the best choice, and why other options might not be suitable? Could you provide a genuine scenario where this approach is the best choice, and why other options might not be suitable?
Its meant for components that you don't have a 3D model for but want included on a BOM. Think paints, primers, lubricants and epoxies.
Understood now! Makes perfect sense. Why was i not thinking about this?? :)))
Components that you need accounted for in the BOM but don't want to see in the model and/or add to the model weight.
I have never been anywhere that used Include specifically but I have been places that want their bulk items "in the model" to drive BOM integration.
It's what I would call a "niche" thing, if you don't have a reason for it, you'll never use it. Generally the reason is a company has some specific use case and they are automating BOM to other systems.
Hi, Some have included components that are needed to be seen in the assembly. How do I change them from Include to assemble?
I tried to work with this, but it is giving me the error:
Assembly license is required to use this functionality.
