exporting part file as text for recreation

PTC says that there isn't a way to do this and there probably isn't but
I was wondering if anyone has thought about it.

Is there a way to export feature history into a text file so it can be
re-created again from a blank start part?

The only thing I can think of is if there was a way to make Pro/E step
through every feature and then you could save the trail file and run
that again. I don't know if there is a way to make Pro/E step through
every feature in such a way that it would record enough information in
the trail file though.

I realize there are UDFs and I could just save a copy but that's not
what I want.

Technically the .prt file is a text file; it can be opened and edited in MS Notepad. I seem to remember back before version 2000 or rev 18 that the syntax was a lot less cryptic when opening in notepad. Since then with all the GUI changes it is not so manageable.

This was doable up to about 2000i or so as I remember.

The file format at about rev 19 was a flat text file that could be
grep'ed and some neat things could be done.

About then Solidworks made a plugin that would rebuild a pro-e file from
this text file and re-create you parts real-time WITH FEATURES. Really
cool to see. Then the DMCA made it a crime to decode the files and PTC
went to an 'encrypted' format.
