Contour Plots

Contour Plots

We are specifying new contour plots. Can you send examples of contour plots that you want and any additional features that you would like.

Thanks,

Mona

One thing I would like is a more intelligent choice of contour levels. If I ask for, say, 12 levels, I don't want them at, for example, 13.23218389123, 17.289382738219, etc. Or give me some way to force them to reasonable numbers. Sometimes it would also be better if we could specify a contour interval, rather than the number of contours. So perhaps we need three entry fields: number of contours, contour interval, first contour value. Changing the values in one field will of course affect the others.

I agree entirely. Its not difficult to write code to give (Z) levels
that are sensible (in twos, fives, tens etc. Also, we should be able
to define the boundary (X,Y) scales as functions of the matrix
indices that create the plot so we can control them computationally.

Wholeheartedly! I recall being able to do this in Matlab, and then my frustration with "learning" how to set the bounds of the data in a function (thanks to helpful collab) and tinker with the Special features to be able to //approximate// what I expected to get. In the same plot that gets me 1.25, 1.4...I get 2.749 instead of 2.75, which is annoying in that it adds clutter to the plot and obscures the "real" value of the contour.

And to just a single value?

I agree. Along the same lines, I want to be able to read vectors (or matrices) of numbers in 2D (or 3D) plots that would set the symbol type for each point, or the symbol size, or the symbol color, or put text at that point, or some combination of the above.

Yes. I do wish to have two different contour intervals in one plot. Esentially they are 'above' and 'below' the sea level/horizon line.

This is common for narrow features sticking up high above broad low varying background.

another example is a 2d DoG (Difference of Gausian) filter.

An obvious solution, not quite as advanced as Richards, is to be able to pass a vector of cotour values, just as one would pass to the histogram function (Non-uniform Bin Case) [Existence theorem - proven..]

Can't check as it seems the licence has run out. Never mind I will like to set "intervals" to whatever you can imagine and then some. First of all just to one single value.

If I have contours that are drawn on a surface, I would like to able to number them.

I almost forgot. We must have a way to include a legend that shows the colors vs intensities. See here for examples:

Great! And surface plots too, I hope.
