Defining a Curve

Hello to all,

 

I am looking at analysing a shape that I have in an image. My end goal is to plot the shape in an xy plot in MathCAD. I am looking to see how people either: approach mathmatically defining a curve (not a simple curve by the way); or tracing an image (I have not used the likes of AutoCAD in some years so assume CAD software has come on a bit) to create a curve and to evaluate its properties.

There is software available which you can use to digitize a scan of your image.

GrDigit, grafula (see links at http://wwwex.physik.uni-ulm.de/lehre/fortgeschrittenenpraktikum/default.htm)

DigitizeIt (http://www.digitizeit.de/)

Un-Scan-It (https://www.silkscientific.com/graph-digitizer.htm)

somone also mentioned a free program "Tracer" here, but I was not able tp track it down.

 

Using this data you may go back to Mathcad to plot or do whatever you intend. You may either tell Mathcad to create an interpolation curve (linear interpolation or cubic splines) or to fit a function of a model.

 

Quite some times ago a Mathcad sheet was posted here in the forum wich could be used to digitize a scanned curve even in Mathcad itself. As it uses features which still are not implemented in Prime it would work for MC15 and lower only.

Unfortunately I was not able to find the thread in this forum where this MC sheet was posted.

The attached archive is something I downloaded years ago here - its not the Mathcad digitizer I have in mind but maybe it can be useful.
