However, these postings are made by the moderators for perfectly understandable and good reasons. Most of the times it is an attempt to get questioners who no longer care about a thread and rudely ignore any replies to close the threads or keep them active by asking follow-up questions.


But I, too, consider these requests to be somewhat annoying or irritating because they let bubble up the thread without anything substantial happening there. On the other hand it has been shown that in some cases (rather the minority I fear) they have been successful and the thread has been closed, sometimes even with a comment or a 'thanks' :-).


However, it might make more sense to contact the thread creators via PM rather than by ‘replying’ in the thread.


These reminders usually are done for threads which are still open for a longer time without any reaction of the OP.
In this specific case, the situation is somewhat different, as the questioner had not yet received any answer and the moderator probably had the feeling that the question was a bit too short and needed more background. So the 'reply' was done just two hours after the post initially was sent and different wording was used and general tips were given on how to increase the chance for an answer - how fruitful these can be in this specific case is, of course, another matter. 😉

Mathcad 15 is not sold anymore, PTC also has stopped supporting it. So you can't get any product code for MC15 anymore and can't license the software anymore.

We bought it as perpetual license, they should still support us if there's an issue with Mathcad.

Hey, we move the app to another server, now it is saying that the license is not valid. Since we purchase a perpetual license for the Mathcad 15, they should still support us regarding our issue.

Have you already contacted PTC support?

If any, they should be able to help you moving the software to a different machine and creating a valid license file.

The other option I can see would be to install a virtual NIC on the new machine, assign it the MAC address the old license file is assigned to and use that old license file.

Sadly, the plug has been well and truly pulled on Legacy Mathcad(*) life support, so I don't think you'll get anywhere with PTC Support.  "Permanent" is in the eyes of the person providing said permanence.  I vaguely recall an email from them stating that they would no longer support M15 moves to new machines, virtual or otherwise. 

 

A cynic might note that PTC wanted people to migrate to Mathcad Prime.  A cynic might therefore suggest that it was easier to apply pressure to the customer to move rather than to raise Mathcad Prime to a level where the customer would actively want to migrate. Indeed, some might think there is merit in the cynic's suggestion and some have expressed such on these hallowed pages.  I couldn't possibly comment, cynicism being alien to my nature ...

 

Such pressure might have been an unintentional perception arising from an understandable decision to drop support for non-income generating legacy products.  Many companies do this; a difference between Mathcad and some other products is in the way that licences operated and were generated.

 

Mathcad Prime is getting there, and Mathcad Prime 10 marked a big step towards that goal, with its advanced (ie, scripted) controls.  And there are a few Mathcad Prime features that I wouldn't want to lose, such as ease of manual array creation and editing.  And ctrl-j for programming; I don't know how I survived without it.  But even my sunny optimism has to admit that it is a slow process.

 

In the meantime, I'm afraid, you're going to have to try the virtual machine route.

(*) Legacy Mathcad aka Mathsoft Mathcad aka Original Mathcad aka Real Mathcad == Mathcad 15 and its ancestors (although how anybody could call Mathcad 12 "Real Mathcad" is beyond me).

if (in the past) you created PTC user account and you linked it to your PTC Customer Number then you can go to https://support.ptc.com/apps/licensePortal/auth/ssl/advsearch page. Then enter Host ID, click Search, select license and click Move License. This opens page where you can enter identification of new computer. After a few minutes, you will receive an email with a new license.

Destination Host ID is the MAC address of the NIC in the new machine you want the license to be moved.

One way to get it is to open a command window in Windows and type "ipconfig /all" (without the quotes).

Mathcad 15 as far as I know is happy with a license for a MAC associated with any NIC, but the primary usually is the one you see under "Ethernet-Adapter Ethernet" The MAC may be called "Physical Address" and is a 12-digit hex number displayed in groups of 2 digits separated by hyphens, like 12-34-56-78-9A-BC.
It should suffice to enter the "Host-ID".  I think that the Host name is optional or can be any text.

 

Good luck and please come back here to report if moving the license was successful and you got Mathcad 15 running on the new machine!

I cant launch MathCad 15 since I am getting this error. This happens when we move away from vmware to proxmox.

I think you need to emulate the previous MAC address in Proxmox.

To emulate a new MAC address for a virtual machine in Proxmox, you can follow these steps:

Log in to the Proxmox Web Interface:

Open your browser and navigate to your Proxmox server's web interface. Enter your credentials to log in.

Select the Virtual Machine:

On the left-hand side, find and click on the VM for which you want to change the MAC address.

Navigate to the Hardware Settings:

Click on the "Hardware" tab for the selected VM. In the hardware list, locate the Network Device you wish to modify.

Edit the Network Device:

Click on the network interface (e.g., net0) and then click on "Edit". You will see a field for the MAC address.

Generate or Set a New MAC Address:

You can either manually enter a new MAC address or use a generator to create one. A valid MAC address must be in the format XX:XX:XX:XX:XX:XX with hexadecimal values (0-9, A-F). If you prefer to have Proxmox generate a new one for you, click the "Generate" button.

Apply Changes:

Once you’ve set the new MAC address, click "OK" to save your changes. To apply the new settings, you may need to reboot the virtual machine.

Perhaps you have to emulate the old MAC address in Proxmox. I am not sure.

Try
