Workspace Refresh Time

Workspace Refresh Time

Hi all,

can anyone please guide about the following issue of Workspace Refresh Time?

Problem:

If we are dealing with large assemblies-containing thousands of components in workspace and we are using the two columns viz., "Compare Status" and "Out of Date" in the workspace view" then workspace takes significant time to refresh everytime we refresh it.

How can we reduce the workspace refresh time?

Regards,

Sandip

Sandip,

I have two recommendations based on what I have experienced at my company. You should have the Compare Status and Out of Date columns in a custom view which is only toggled on and off when required. Also, we have our system here set where all objects are set to "Read Only" by default when added into a workspace, then the user can unlock objects which require change. In addition, you need a custom view which is basically what you want to see in the workspace with all "Read Only" objects filtered from the view. This will help with the refresh times.

Hi Bryant,

Thanks for the reply.

Actually our users need the two columns Compare Status and Out of date so we have investigated for any other option. Right now we are trying with one option in ProEngineer config.pro file i.e., setting the compression level value via attribute dm_http_compression_level, the possible values are from 0 to 9, we have tested it for all values and the workspace refresh time reduces significantly. but as we go higher values than 6, it affects the CPU performance of client as well as server so we have found the optimum value as 3 or 4. and it worked fine.

If you also have some idea about this option then you can share your experiences.

Sandip

In my experience, if you have over 2000 objects, Windchill takes 5 to 20 minutes to refresh. It is not a good solution for large companies.

We have consultants working on helping us, but we're running up against the fact that Windchill is just a poorly programmed, and unreliable piece of software.
