I am unable to enable intersection witness lines for driven dimensions in the model. It is grayed out in the dimension properties dialog. They work perfectly if I create a non-driven dimension directly in the drawing. If I create a feature in the model with a sharp corner and later add a fillet, then I cannot use the driven dimenison and get intersection witness lines. Is there are way to do this?
Thank you.
funny, we just got a group email about doing this.
enable intersection witness lines:
Open Drawing Properties options.
File>Prepare>Drawing Properties>Detail Options>Change
Find "witness_line_intersection", default is "no", use Add/Change to set it to "yes".
note: it only applies to new dimension
Thank you.
I'm aware of this option. The problem I'm having is applying them to 'driven dimensions'--those that appear when you click "Show Model Annotations". It works perfectly if I create a dimension directly using the Annotate tab in drawing mode.
ahh, sorry, i hadn't actually had a use or tried it yet.
Now this is a useful tip.
When required, I end up creating datum curves in the model that will appear on the drawing as those extension lines. That way they don't get lost. They end up on a layer called dwg_enhancement along with any other geometry that is there only to make the drawing clearer. I guess they'd help with 3D annotation as well, as they are part of the model.
I usually rename the curves also, to dwg_extension_lines, or some such to discourage accidently deleting them.
