keeping the tool down

Hi All,

I've had this situation before but I just lived with it. But I'm tired
of it and would like a fix. I use profile sequences a lot and at the end
of a pass the tool always retracts and comes back down. Can anybody tell
me how to keep the tool down in between cuts? I will attach a picture of
the tool path.

Hi Don,

We also used to experience such problems.. looks like the are inherent of Profile Sequences... so I avoid using them in toolpaths where the problem may arise...

What I do to get rid of this problem is to use Trajectory Milling Sequences with the option CONNECTION_TYPE set as Z_LAST, as you can see in the attached screenshot. Works like a charm!

Don,

One thing that I have done as a work around with ?Profile? is to lower the
retract plane to the same height as the cut. Then in the customize box I
would add a GoDelta to retract at the end. I have tried to get PTC to get
rid of all the automatic retracts with no luck.

Thanks,

Kent

Hi All,

Thanks for all the great replies!

I got just what I wanted by using the Custom Trajectory sequence with
parameters.

1.Conection_Type = Simultaneous

2. Cut_Type = Zig_Zag

3. End_Motion = Z_Last

4. Slice_Path_Scan = Slice_By_Slice

I had never used Custom Trajectory like that before.

It never fails when I get stuck with something this community comes
through!

Thanks again for all your ideas.

Don

A couple more things when using that sequence and those parameter. I like to use "Simultaneous" for the CONNECTION_TYPE so the tool ramps down. If your TRAVERSE_FEED is set to "-" you may get unwanted rapid moves. At least it is this way in WF4 build M070 and has been for a long time.

Glad it worked for you Don, 😉
