Field Service Mobile 11.1.3 - Coming in April

In early April, the 11.1.3 version of the Field Service Mobile client will be released and available for download.   This release has some small improvements, defect corrections and some security improvements.  The following information provides some details into the changes in the 11.1.3 version.  Please pay close attention to the changes related to validation of MIS server certificates by the new mobile client in preparation for the release of the next version of the mobile client.

  • Validating MIS Server Certificates - When the Field Service mobile client connects to the MIS server over HTTPS, the mobile client validates the MIS server certificate to ensure that the server connection is secure. The mobile client requires a verifiable and valid server connection to establish an SSL server connection with the Field Service core application through the MIS server. The validation of the server certificate on your mobile device ensures that your connection with the server is valid and secure. If the server certificate chain is not valid or verifiable, the mobile client does not establish a connection with the Field Service application.  A message states that the FSM application on your mobile has failed to establish a secure connection with the MIS server.  If you have already updated MIS server certificates to support iOS9 devices (reference blog post on Field Service Mobile and iOS9), then you should not need to take any further action.
  • New Long Text Area and Notes Editor - New native editors for iOS and Android devices have been created to improve the user experience when entering in long text or notes on the mobile client.  The new editors resolve a number of reported issues with notes entry on the mobile client.
  • Deleting Notes, Parts and Assets from a Dispatched Ticket - After you dispatch a ticket to the mobile client, you can now delete notes, parts and assets from the ticket.  If the mobile client is online and can receive updates, the deleted items will be removed from the ticket on  the mobile client.  Note: You can remove parts from the ticket only when parts pickup activities are not enabled.
  • Ability to Undo Travel on a Parts Pickup Activity - If you started travel for a Parts Pickup Activity that is scheduled on a route and your priorities have changed, you can now Undo Travel on the Parts Pickup Activity.
  • Adding Attachments to Notes - You can add attachments to notes on the mobile client.  This feature requires the Field Service Core 11.1.5 release.

There is currently a beta version of the 11.1.3 mobile client available for early visibility and testing.  Please contact me (-) if you are interested in participating in our beta testing of this version of the application.
