In XP, sometimes Windows thinks it has stopped working when in fact it's
just thinking a loooong time about a feature. Happens a lot with
rounds. That looks like Vista or Win7, is there a way to return to the
program to wait until it recovers like you can in XP?

I am having exactly the same problem.
I have been running Wildfire 1 for years, but only recently I am getting the xtop.exe error message and Wildfire fails to start.
I wondered if it was to do with a Windows Update (I am on Windows 7 64 Bit) .
I have updated the Graphics Drivers etc but cannot resolve it.
It is very frustrating, and as I am Freelance, and am not able to work on my Projects.
Can anyone please help?

Try stripping everything out. Remove all of your config files, except for maybe setting
graphics win32gdi
Change your Windows Performance Options (search at the start menu for SystemPropertiesPerformance.exe) to "adjust for best performance"
Launch the xtop.exe directly from the installation folder (this varies depending on what version you are using)

Thanks Christopher,
I have tried your suggestions but to no avail.
I ended up completely cleaning/malware check etc on my machine as I thought I had a virus.
The problem continued.
I have downloaded the latest Creo 3 on a 30 day trial and it works fine, so I guess my old software has had its day.
Cheers,
Dave

I have the same error - PTC Creo trial Player with Creo Parametric 4.0 (trial version).
Too fixed I use Windows update for universal c runtime in windows 299226 Windows6.1-KB2999226-x64.msu .
Attention from selection with type of windows use (W 7 x64, W 8 x32, W 10x 64........).
After this update work great Creo - unfortunately I lost 15 day from trial.
All the best,
Doru

it. Many programs will show as 'stopped working' when they are doing
something cpu intensive. Pro-E is famous for 'freezing' or not
repainting the screen when moving windows over the pro-e window.
"He's not dead, he's just resting..." (Obscure Monty Python reference)
I believe that you can 'tweak' the response time allowed for this... (At
least in Win 2K, Win XP) I don't know about Win 7, never tried Vista.
I will have to google some sites and report back.
