Field Service Mobile and iOS 9

The upcoming release of Apple's iOS 9 operating system will have an impact on the users of PTC Servigistics Field Service Mobile app.  Below are some things to keep in mind related to this upgrade of the Apple operating system.

  1. iOS 9 apps must communicate with the server over HTTPS using TLS 1.2 SSL with a verifiable and valid certificate. Please make sure that you upgrade the secure communication layer on your Field Service Management servers so that users that upgrade to iOS 9 will be able to use the mobile application. Reference the information related to App Transport Security in the pre-release version of What's new in iOS for more information.   Please reference the documentation for your web server application for information on how to configure SSL/TLS settings. For enabling SSL on Tomcat, refer to the Apache Tomcat documentation: https://tomcat.apache.org/tomcat-7.0-doc/ssl-howto.html
  2. Version 10.7.7 seems to be working well with the latest versions of the iOS 9 beta. At this time we do not see any blocking issues (except for updating your servers to use the correct security protocols). Please do not have users move forward to iOS 9 yet until we do final verification. Once the iOS 9 release is available, we will do final verification testing and provide an update if there are any issues with the app running on iOS 9. Watch for more updates as the iOS 9 operating system is officially released.
  3. Version 11.1.0 has a few issues related to iOS 9.  If you upgrade to the iOS 9 operating system, expect that you will not be able to use the Field Service Mobile application.  These issues are being reviewed and planned to be included in an update release later in 2015.
