Define Dimensions of 2D Drawing Sketch Lines

Hi all, I'm hoping someone can help me out with this seemingly simple task.

I'm adding sketch lines to a finished 2D drawing to mark where custom cuts must be made.  How do I define the dimensions of the line, such as creating the sketch line 1 inch away from a predefined part view line?  I can snap to those lines, but I can't define a simple dimension for the distance between the two lines, or even the length of a sketch line??

I would strongly suggest that you do not use sketched entities in a dwg to capture geometric design intent. You would be better off to add sketched datum curves in the model and show them (and the dims) on the dwg. If you are worried about these cut lines visibility on the dwg then you can control the display with layers.
