I'm trying to set up a design study where I rotate a crankshaft and the load vectors and magnitudes vary based on the rotation angle.  I was told I could create a user parameter, which is the angle, and then link the load values and/or directions to the angle parameter using relations. So when the angle value changes, the loads change accordingly.   Can someone show me how I would write a relation like that? or Does someone have another way to do this?   Currently the crankshaft is an assembly file where the load vector is defined with a coordinate system.  So when the assembly angle (crankshaft angle) is changed the csys changes to apply the bearing load at the correct vector.

Hello everyone,I am having problems with a mechanism analysis in Creo.I have a square sliding pin that moves along an axis using a prismatic joint.The pin is preloaded by a spring.An eccentric rotating disk (cam) pushes the pin upward, and the spring pushes it back when the cam rotates away.The disk does not rotate around its geometric center (offset axis).What I am trying to achieveI need to evaluate the required driving torque of the rotating disk during the mechanism analysis.What I have already tried3D surface-to-surface contact between cam and pinCam / curve follower definition instead of contactUnfortunately, both approaches fail during the mechanism analysis with a “simulation failed / analysis failed” error.Additional question (modeling):I also need to place 48 identical sliding pins into corresponding grooves/slots around the disk.Is there a way to automatically insert or pattern these pins without defining each pin manually in the mechanism?Creo version: 12.4.0.0 Any hel

Hello,I use Inspect geometry/Shadow analysis. But now I need to create an envelope of the shadow when the light direction change. Is there any way how to do it or get the envelope geometry? I know I can dynamically update the shadow when I drag light dimension, but I need to change concurrently 2 or 3 dimensions. I use Creo 12 Thanks for help.Best regardsMichal

Hello, I am trying to model a retracting pin which allows a spring loaded mass to drop freely in the z-axis using Creo 8+. However, I keep getting the following error: "3-D contact in model has encountered an error:In a cylinder-cylinder contact, the rectangular contact patch is invalid.This violates contact-patch assumptions related to Hertzian compliant contactcalculations." As far as I can tell, there is no interference in my model, no erroneous material properties, etc.  I have been using dynamic analysis for this, and the pin is removed using a translation servo motor. The mass is constrained in the x & y by two pin constraints. I do not have friction enabled, nor gravity. Any help you could give would be greatly appreciated! I have already tried changing the contact to a point-cylinder & decreasing the contact radius of the point. 

Hi,I am trying to run a dynamic simulation for my assembly. It contains the the lever arm with the pivot at the center of the arm. One end I have mass which generates the force of 25N in one direction. I apply 600N of force on the other end in opposite direction (force curve will start at (0,0) to (0.5ms, 600N)). I have the below setting and it seems like the lever is not rotating. Do we need to change any setting if the duration is very small.

The bolt shouldn't need a nut. I'm just pulling against the slot to see if we can simulate the failure.I can't imagine that would need to create an imaginary nut for this. What is the best way to create a contact and maintain the cool bolt functionality? (without a nut and another imaginary part for the imaginary nut to connect to) The actual assembly does not have a nut at the end of this bolt and I'm not testing the "pull out" of this bolt in the other part - just the failure of the thin area of the slot. 

I am using creo flow analysis (creo 11.0.4) with the base license. I would like to simulate a free standing centrifugal (radial) fan in a simple air channel. How do I simulate that?I can create a fluid volume and at the locus of the fan I create a circular interface. I can now choose "fan" for that interface and add a local function as a dp-curve. So far so good. However, creo considers that fan automatically as axial fan and, therefore, the fluid flows straight through this interface. I could add swirl (radial and tangential velocity) to the fan, but I have to add these values in m/s (and I don't know these). Furthermore, I can not select the rotation direction. I saw that alternatively I could choose "rotating wall" as boundary condition if I have a solid that represents the fan blades but I could not manage to create a fan with that. I am also not interested in the flow right through/in the fan but rather through the whole channel. What is the difference between "rotating

Hello All, I’m trying to simulate torque applied to a ¼” hexagonal driver to a reduced A/F set screw. I have set the simulation up but getting very high stresses in the results. My question is does applying the ‘total load at point’ effectively divide the moment load by 6 in this case, the point created is at the centre of the hex? Due to the stress reported I suspect I may have to divide the torque value by 6 manually when setting the load up?

Dear expertsI'm just frustrated about very primitive exercise in Creo Simulate 12. See the sketch below. In creo there is an assembly contains 2 composite parts, in real glued together. The cored composite board (composites 1) is bonded on composite frame L profile (composite 2). The target is to see how the rigidity of L profile affects the modal frequencies of board.Only composite quilts are supported in Simulate, it means the virtually gap is observed, the layup guilts are not in touch, bonded connection is not supported in this case. I have tested a lot of procedures, rigid link, spot weld...etc., but only bonded interface is closest to real surface - surface bonding.Another test I have made, in assembly the 3rd part - glue was created, the thickness was a gap, but there is a material interference - glue + laminate in real. Does anybody have an idea how to fix that? What is the correct connection feature between two composite parts, or generally between two shells?Thx a l

Hello,My motivation was to create a pattern of points to be used as measurements (in this case the rotation of these points in relation to a selected CS in the main assembly)As rotation cannot be used in solid elements, I created a pattern of point to points linked by rigid links to do the job. This is after imported in the main assembly and finally patterned. My hope was to not have to define rotation measurement manually from each point later. With measurements in a pattern, this would be made automatically by Creo Simulate.However, I cannot select this pattern using the “pattern” option for anything – but I can use other patterns – and this does not make sense.Is there a bug or a limitation that is not clear? I am using Creo Flow (not Creo Simulate Live) , as part of Creo 11.0.4.When I use the 'Generate Mesh' option, the geometry will mesh correctly the first time.However, after this, even with a very simple geometry (simple cylinder), if I make any changes to the mesh parameters, the part does not get re-meshed, it stays with the previous mesh.The only way to update the mesh is to remove the fluid domain entirely, add a new fluid domain, and then apply a mesh.There must be a way to update the mesh without having to remove the fluid domain each time?

I'm trying to simplify a model and I'm not sure how far to go or how much it is worth my time.  I'd like to know if there is a way to analyze how my simplification of a part or assembly affects the graphical performance.  For example if I take out the inner surface of all the tubes is that better than simply focusing on removing the holes.If there was a way to create an analysis that tells me you model has ___ number of faces that might go a long way with knowing how my different simplification methods are improving model performance.That or if there was a way to do an analysis that say your model is using ___ GPU memory.Does anyone from the community know how to do such an analysis?   

In Creo Mechanism (MDO) motion simulation,I would like to use different spring constants for the loading and unloading (return) directions, in order to represent spring hysteresis.Is there any way to simulate this behavior in MDO?If not directly supported, what is the recommended workaround?

It would be great if PTC would enable calculation of average and mass averaged report for velocity (so, similar as for total pressure). This option should be available either through XYPlot either/and through interface output property.   @tmoser : good advice until implementation of my proposal into Creo. 😀   Have a good day  

Hello, I would like ot know if there is any posibility to measure COM of subassemblies. According to direct method there si no way to propagatemeasure to higher level assembly.  Most of our frames has simple design with 1 rotation axis and one hydraulic cylinder and we need to confirm if analytical solution is confirmed by FEM model. So key parameter is COM of subassembly. In top level assembly there is a way how to measure COM of whole assembly but it is not enough to calculate reactions in joints.

Hello. I am simulating one beam model which rotates around an axis.・A clock spring is set on the rotation axis.・In MDO, beam model start to rotates upward once it start running I would like to explore Minimum Spring Constant K (Nmm/deg)  that allows the beam model to rotate more than 40 degrees.(no need to change Beam model dimension) In this case, is it possible to obtain a solution for the spring constant K with BMX?Or any other solution in Creo? I try setting Spring constant K as BMX Goal by using relation. But it was not explored This problem will be solved by hand calculations. However If a solution exists for this simple problem, I will apply the method to more complex problems . (to simulate Car Seat Tumble Motion) Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Hello all,If anyone has an idea about torsion springs ?I am trying to apply torsion spring mechanisms to this assembly, but during the process I am unable to pick a reference point; the first point is selected, but the second point is unable to be picked, and the torsion spring is not visible. Result of this process I need a calculation against the torsion spring. For reference, I attached a screenshot of the extension spring that shows when the reference points are selected and the spring becomes visible. Torsion spring asm.Extension spring example :
