Editing duplicated parts in Creo Parametric 10.0

Hi,

 

I am working with Creo Parametric 10.0. I saved a part using Save As->Save a Copy in the same working directory and started editing the duplicated part. But I noticed that all those changed also got transferred to the original part. How can I prevent the editing of the original part in this case? Thanks.

Do you have any relations that got duplicated with the Save-As operation? 

Any driving dimensions from another part?

Did you close and remove the original part from memory before starting to work on the duplicate?

I do not have any relations in the part. 

I am also not driving dimensions from another part. 

No, the original part was open and still in memory. Is it required to close the original part and remove from the memory before I start editing the duplicated part?

Can you post the models? If not, post some screenshots of the model tree and the global reference viewer showing parents of the parts in question.

Doing a save as in Creo does not behave like a typical windows office program or most other programs. It saves the file with a new name, yes, but DOES NOT SWITCH to the new copied file. The file you copied from is still active, still in memory. To modify the newly created copy of your original file, you need to open it. Very contrary to virtually every other Windows program I've used, but that's how it is.

With Creo, when you do a save as, unlike windows programs, when you do a save as on a part, the OLD part remains active. Before you start making changes, you have to go to file- open and retrieve the newly saved part. I make that mistake all the time, over and over.

 

To check if this is your problem, pull the parts up side by and if the old part has all the changes and the new part is still unmodified, you made the same mistake I typically make.

Hi, 

Thanks for responding to this. I am aware that Creo does not automatically open the new file. Hence, I always retrieve the new file and start editing it. Additionally, the modifications are in both the files. Somehow, the files are connnected.

    Try another test. Create a new file using the same Save-As method as originally. Close Creo and restart it. Open the new file only and make your changes. See if the changes are also made in the original file now.
