In Creo 4.0, how do you make a component cut out from parts in an assembly?

Hi,

on Model tab click Component > Component Operation > Boolean Operations. Set Boolean Operation = Cut.

    Little more detail (I'm slow).  I performed the sequence then selected the component I wanted cut, followed by the component that was being cut out.  I got nothing.  Do I need to have something highlighted before going into that sequence?  I must be missing something.
