Creo Illustrate / Copying a view orientation from one figure to another figure

Hi all,

this is a topic that has been bothering me for a long time.

Is there a way to apply the view orientation (perspective & zoom) of one image to another image?

 

For example, I copied a figure 1 to a figure 2 and reoriented the view in the figure 2 and saved it. And then I realized that I would rather have the original view (the view from figure 1).

But without the option of transferring the orientation from another figure, it doesn't seem possible.

 

It also seems to be similar in animated sequences. I don't know how I could transfer a certain orientation from one sequence to another sequence.

 

Can anyone help?

Hi Ramon,

 

The orientations list is a global level setting which means it is saved locally on the users machine.

This is why you see the behavior you described.

 

As this workaround doesn't fully resolve your problem I would suggest logging a product idea for a more specific copy camera feature as it's really the camera that has the right orientation and zoom.

Hi Ramon,

 

Although there isn't a specific copy orientation option, there is a workaround that i think will help.

In the original figure open the Orientations menu and select 'Customize'.

This opens the Custom View Orientations dialog click on 'New' to add a new orientation.

By default the current orientation values are used, so if you add a name and save it this new orientation will be available in all other figures.

    Hello Agarland,

     

    I know this ‘trick’. However, the zoom is not taken into account (as with view fixes, see following image):

    Instead, the view is fitted to the screen. So if you move a part (see example), the perspective remains the same, but the zoom changes when you fit it on the screen:

    And what I don't understand is that the newly defined view is then also visible in all other CI files.

     

    On the one hand, this can be helpful, but on the other hand, it naturally accumulates over time (see picture).

    What I wonder is where CI writes the information about the new views. The views are adopted even if I don't save the CI file.

     

    And if you delete the views in one new CI file, they disappear from all the other CI files too. Why is that?

     

    It seems like the views are stored in an external file that all open CI files access. That's crazy, isn't it?

     

    So in conclusion, your suggestion is helpful, but not really the solution to my problem
