Anybody out there linking CAD to WT Parts

Just curious if anyone would be willing to share experiences on linking CAD
data to existing WT Part structure?

Thanks in advance!!

Margi, are you seeking general comments or something specific like CAD Assembly association? We associate CAD Docs to WTParts. With 10.1 the action "edit association" from the CAD Doc info Action menu will permit asssociation and then requires a Check In of the WTPart. The next Check In of the CAD Doc will also build the wtpart attributes noted with the prompt line in the Creo window. You'll need to understand that now the CAD Doc and WTPart must both have Check In rights once associated. If either does not then the Check In will fail. Also during the Revision actions the wtpart will collect if you start the revision tasks using the Owner CAD Doc

Hi Margi,

Is your system currently Part-centric or Model-centric? Also when you say ‘link’ is it a primary ownership association or a more like a document association?

In our case, we are model-centric and trying to move toward Part-centric. We have the model first then create/ associate the WTPart to the model in a workspace. So it sounds like you do it differently. In our case the Part is subjugate to the model as we learn to be more part-centric.

Having said that the process of association is pretty simple for us. Many times a user will create a new revision and not include the Part (I’m working on making that collection mandatory) so I will need to re-associate the model and part. That is fairly simple.

Not sure if this helps or confuses, in either case the process of association at any level is fairly uncomplicated, but being Raytheon, I am guessing there is a scale component in play as well.

Best,
Bob

Margi,
We use the WT Part to drive new parts, changes, ect. to our business system from engineering daily. As someone else has stated there is an association between the CAD model and WT part which needs to be "owner" in order to relate the two. Both the CAD model and the WT Part follow the same change management. I do remember when we migrated from 3.4 to 9.1 there was a problem with the .rsd files (Routed Systems). It had something to do with allowing the ECAD files to associate to WT Parts.
Thanks,
