I am using Mathcad Release 15.0 and Datecode is unknown
We have been receiving a "Disk Full" error when saving to a network location (that is most definitely not full). My users say it has been happening "for years," but this is the first I've heard of this. This happens regardless of the file or network location, and does not happen when saved locally to the computer. Happens with or without auto-save being enabled.
When it happens, our users have to save locally and then move the file to the server. Is there a port or something on our firewalls that needs to be opened to allow MathCAD to save to network locations without an error? It doesn't happen every single save, but it is is frequent enough to where my users are choosing to save the file locally instead, which is an issue we'd like to stamp out immediately.
Here are the errors that I faced:
Disk full while accessing "insert network file path"
Does file size make difference? Do smaller files get to the network drive but larger files are failing?
It could also be a network latency issue where MathCAD is overwriting the network transfer speed and the server is saying 'I'm full'.
What does your IT department say about it?
Hello! File size doesn't seem to matter much, as MathCAD will save the file 2-3 times with no issue and then randomly give this error. I don't think it's a latency issue since we don't have this problem with saving CAD, GIS, and other large modeling files directly to the server, but I can check in with our Network Admins. I am part of the IT team here but I am not familiar with all aspects of MathCAD since I don't use it myself.
I think it has to do with spaces and special characters in the file path, such as dashes or underscores, but couldn't find any definitive answer to which characters are fine and which aren't when it comes to MathCAD and file paths.
Verify Path Length: If the file or directory path exceeds 260 characters, Windows may prevent saving data. Consider shortening folder or file names to avoid this limitation. if it is Map the long pathname to a drive like Z: or similar.
Thanks for the response! I have verified that the file path does not exceed the 255 character limit of File Explorer. That was actually my first thought. Do you have any idea which characters are ok with MathCAD file paths and which aren't? Several of our file paths has spaces, dashes, and underscores, but the fact that it saves most of the time and then sometimes just doesn't makes me wonder if the path is actually the issue here.
Do you think using a mapped drive as opposed to a full file path could be the issue? Not sure how I could get around that without having my users manually type in the full path each time, which is not really a great solution 🙁
The fact that this error occurs occasionally, and not consistently with a given path/file name makes me think it is not Mathcad causing the problem here, but server/network traffic would be the first point to look at.
You state the error is:
Disk full while accessing "insert network file path"
Where in the user interface of Mathcad 15 does this happen? I'm not familiar with an interface element that prompts "insert network file path".
Or is this a prompt used in Windows 11? (For which Mathcad 15 is not certified to work...)
Success!
Luc
The error doesn't say "Insert network path..." It has the actual network path listed, I just didn't want to post the path we use on our network.
So it could be Disk full while accessing B:\companyserver\client_name\project 123456\Made-Up-Project-Name\MathCAD_Files
This happens when someone tries to save the file while working. Work for 30 minutes, click save, work for an hour, click save, work for 20 minutes, click save, but this time the error pops up.
Is the Autosave worksheet option used in this case?
