Can't edit program

I've been using Pro/Program in Proe/2001 for decades (stuck in legacy hell), and we are switching to Creo 2 and 3. My Proe license was pretty much "full blown", with access to almost everything except some of the surfacing and cabling extensions.

The new Creo 2 license was also supposed to be full boogy, and I can do everything I could in Proe... except I can't edit an assembly program or create/modify a layout. I've been through the configuration and setup a few times, and it looks like everything is installed and configured.

Any ideas why I can't access that functionality, or which license is missing?

Not sure about layout, but make sure the Working Directory is one that you have rights to. I've been bitten more than once where Creo is asked to do something and it silently fails because the default directory is read-only.

What does the Support Info say about the licensing?

Hi,

your license must contain ASSEMBLY module if you want to edit Pro/Program in Assembly mode.

Gonna get with the sales guys on Monday and see what they say. What's odd is that the same license file will open layouts and allow access to Pro/Program with Proe 2001, but when using it with Creo 2 that functionality is locked out.

Hi,

you can click File > Help > System information to display info window. Scroll it little but and you will see list of license modules. Check if ASSEMBLY is present.

did you perhaps mean AAX? because we have an old "Drafting" licence of wf5 (or somewhere around that ver, i don't work with it) and it doesn't have the option to edit the assembly pro/program, just execute it.

Still haven't heard from PTC on this. The issue is that the license file contains NOTEBOOK and ASSEMBLY in feature 24, and works fine in ProE. But for some reason, they aren't included in the Creo feature. Why would they strip that functionality out when it's the same purchased license/bundle?

From the license file (which was originally purchased with advanced assembly and other goodies for ProE):

Hello Craig Starnes

switching from ProE to Creo requests new licences file.

"The new Creo 2 license was also supposed to be full boogy"

Perhaps you got new licence file from your local provider or PTC.

Milan Bonka

Hi,

if you have PTC account available, then you can try following ...

  • go to https://support.ptc.com/cgi/cs/apps/lmr/lmr.pl page and Request Detailed License Report
  • you will receive zipped Excel file (email address is shown on the web page)
  • inside Excel file you will find every PTC item bought by your company
  • I hope that the report explains what is going on ...

Ask about the CREOLAY_License. Ours has an option Layout_3D_Integration which I'm assuming is what you are probably missing for Layout.
