Drawing cannot be retrieved

I am using Creo Parametric Release 10.0 and Datecode10.0.0.0

The drawing won't open and says "(title of drawing) cannot be retrieved". Has anyone else had a problem with a drawing not being able to be retrieved?

No matter what I try I cannot get the drawing to open. This drawing has many sheets with a lot of information and will take many, many hours to recreate.

Ya, that folder name is not going to work with symbols and periods I doubt.

Its trying to save a trail file, so did you open via a double click? That made that odd folder the startup folder. 

Open creo normally using the icon, then navigate to the folder to open the file so creo opens correctly.

Keep the latest version that works in the original folder, move the newer versions out so you can do your research to see what is missing and what would need to be redone. This may only be good for understanding the implications of going back versions and may not be your solution.

Are you using a PDM system with Creo or native filing to disk?

If a PDM, which one and version?

Can you open the model(s) associated to the drawing?

On occassion, I have had to open the model first and then then drawing. Not normal by any means but it has happened.

Yes, I can open all the models associated with the drawing. That was my original thought as well.

Here are some things you can try to get the drawing to open.

  1. Try opening the drawing as a "view only" to allow you to view the image of the drawing to help aide in the debugging process.
  2. Open all of the models associated with the drawing first. Check for any issues, errors, etc. in the message log and the reference viewer. Make sure all simplified reps open without issue.  Check if any cross sections might cause display issues.  Refining a cross section plane by offsetting it from its current location may resolve some display issues.
  3. Open a "rep" of the drawing. Create it when trying to open it. Select the "no views" default rep.
  4. If you get the no views rep to open, try turning the views on one by one. There may be an offending view that is causing the whole drawing to fail to open.
  5. If you discover the offending view, you may be able to re-define a cross section or such in the model that could resolve the issue, or worst case, you can delete the offending view and still recover most of the drawing.

Since you are on the hard drive, unless you have specifically turned of the file version, you will have copies of the drawing for each save.

DON'T DELETE VERSIONS, Temporarily move to a non-searched folder for testing.

You can go back to older versions and see if they work. Maybe it's only something recent and the amount of work to redo is minimal.

You may have to show file extensions in your file manager to see the versioned files correctly.

I went back to previous versions and I am able to open them up but I am now getting a message saying there is no write access to the folder I am selecting.
