How do we get transparent images into a Creo Format file (.frm)?

I am using Creo Parametric Release 9.0 and Datecode 9.0.1.0

I need to upload a transparent image into a Creo format file (.frm). I can upload images into the format files but Creo always gives them a white background. I have tried to insert transparent images of many different file types and none have retained their transparent background once uploaded into Creo format.

Assuming you are using the images functionality to place the image in your drawing. Follow these steps.

Hello and thanks for replying!

I do not seem to have the images option under View. So far I have been inserting images into Creo's format files using the Layout > Object pathway. Do you have any ideas as to how I can get this images option in the View tab? Thanks so much for your help!

I believe I have attached two images so you can see my Creo Toolbar options

Here are the steps:
1. Click Layout > Images.
2. Click Import.
3. Locate the image file, select it, and click Open.
4. Drag the image to where you want it placed on the drawing.
5. If desired, adjust the image's scale, rotation, and/or transparency.
That's it! The imported image file becomes part of the drawing. And note, the system doesn’t require object linking and embedding (OLE).

Hi tbraxton!

Thanks for your fast reply. Unfortunately, I do not seem to have an Images option under Layout. Do you know how I could obtain that option?

Try creating a drawing (not a format) and following the steps. Let me know if it works there.

Unfortunately, my company needs a transparent image in the format file type. They are able to get transparent images in the other file types.

I understand the need for a format. What if you could save a drawing file as a format? That might solve your problem.

Do you use drawing Templates? Put the transparent image in the drawing template instead of the format as it appears the image editing tools are not available at the format level.

I understand what you both are saying. I can upload a transparent image into CREO drawing file. However, when I try to save the file, I can only get the file types shown in the picture above (none of which are the format file type). Any ideas on how to proceed? Thanks for the help tbraxton and BenLoosli!

Assuming that you are trying to put a logo on a format, does it really need to be a transparent image? Can you go back to the source of the image and request the image in a shape format that you can more easily import (DXF)? Barring that have you tried converting the image into a format that can be read into Creo easier?

I have used Inkscape's trace bitmap to convert images into DXFs which can then be pulled into Creo for instance.

Hi Chris3!

Unfortunately, it does need to be a transparent logo. I have downloaded Inkscape and converted the PNG into DXF. I have not been able to successfully upload the dxf into CREO. What pathway would you use to get a DXF on a format?

If you open the DXF it will be a drawing with lines and shapes on it. Then you can simply copy paste whatever you want onto your format. You may need to scale things.

How do I open the DXF? I have not been able to find a way to get it into CREO

Thanks!

Is it throwing an error? DXF is a supported file type. File-> Open -> change type to DXF -> Select it and click open.

Capture.PNG

When I try to open it in a format I get the error message shown below

Do you happen to have a seat of AutoCAD? Sometimes AutoCAD can fix DXF errors that Creo cannot.

Hi,

can you upload your DXF file? Pack it into zip file and upload this zip file.
