You have several options for making licenses more available.
A license triad (redundant license servers). This will allow licenses to continue to be available if 1 of the 3 license services becomes unavailable. The licenses are referenced via a format of 7788@server1,7788@server2,7788@server3 (use commas, not semicolons [although it will work either way]). The main disadvantage to a license triad is they typically need to be setup on the same sub-domain vs. being distributed on a WAN. If that sub-domain is not available, you lose all your licenses.
Use distributed license servers. You can have as many as you'd like. Each server is setup independently of the other servers, and operate on their own. The licenses are referenced via a format of 7788@server1;7788@server2;7788@server3;7788@server4 (use semicolons). If you have 100 licenses, you can create 4 license files with 25 licenses each. The main disadvantage of distributed licenses is if any server becomes unavailable, you lose the licenses served from that server. The servers can be setup anywhere across a WAN.
Setup a "backup" license server and use an alias to reference the license service. The idea here is to have a license service pre-defined on another server, and you setup an alias for the primary license server. You setup Creo Parametric (or any PTC tool) to reference the alias license server name, not the actual license server name. i.e. 7788@licenseservices instead of 7788@server1. If the primary license server is not available, you can quickly transfer the PTC licenses to the backup server using PTC's online license transfer, install the license file on the backup server, and start the services. The alias is then modified to point to the backup server name. No client modification is needed, and the licenses can be restored quite quickly.
