Work around Searching PDMLink for CAD files after FAST is installed?

Once FAST InStream is installed there appears to be no way to get consistent results using the Keyword search to find CAD files based on their File Names.

Fast assumes that dashes and underscores are white space, and even after trying to instruct the search utility to treat numbers as strings, it still couldn't find a file based on its drawing number.

Also if you search based on text in a file name, you will get results that include files that don't even contain that text in their file names. This is because the search is looking at information in the file, not just the names and attributes.

Work around
The solution is to do an advanced search as illustrated in the attached image.
Pick Search, and then Advanced Search

1. Make sure the Search In: context is set to where you want to search. All Contexts will ensure you find the file no matter what Product or Library they are in.

2. Pick on the Find... button next to the Search For: field. From the Find Type window pick Workgroup Manager CAD Document. (pick on the circle)

3. Pick on the Down Arrow in the Criteria: field and select File Name from the list, and then pick the Add button.

4. In the Value field, enter what you want to search for using either * or ? for wildcards. This is just like you have always searched for files.

One advantage to searching this way is it will only look at ProE files and ignore the rest of the files in the database. Should be faster.

Have you tried the search tab on the left of your screen? It provides the filename as a possible search field.

Oops, please disregard my last post, I was thinking from inside Pro\E.
