Prepopulating Date to now()

how to prepopulate date field in create document form with current date? any OOTB approach available?

What's wrong with using the already existing attribute, "createStamp", which logs the current date when you create a document?

&todays_date is the parameter. There is a setback that if this is edited, it will revert to today's date.
