Duplicate attributes in Attribute layout

In a subtype attribute layout we have an attribute 'xyz' which is getting displayed twice. At the parent type level the attribute is only defined once but in the subtype the same attribute is appearing twice. In the parent layout if we try to remove the attribute form the attribute display layout then one of this gets removed in the subtype as well but one still remains. 

Has anyone faced similar kind of issue??
