External Storage question (not vaults)

Windchill gurus,
I am building a custom workflow for an order circulation review and they are currently storing a document on a network drive (I am trying to convince them to store it in Windchill). Does anyone have any suggestions on how to create a link to that document within a Windchill object? I originally thought to use a URL Link, but it keeps pointing to the Windchill server and the External storage option is just dumb text.

I tried creating a link in the form : , it seems to work from the "hot links" page, maybe you can use the same scheme in other links.
