Free classification images

Can anyone recommend where to obtain free classification images (fasteners, etc.)?

We made our own by taking a representable model from Creo and rendering it with a white background. You want to make sure you get the pixel ratios right so that it looks good. I do not know of any "free" sources but if you google images and filter for Creative Commons, those can work.

To further clarify my question, we are developing a Windchill PartsLink classification tree for our common parts library (fasteners, etc.) and would like to add images to the tree branches. This would make the user experience similar to browsing the McMaster-Carr catalog.

One possible solution, recommend by one of our managers, would be to use images cut from our existing CAD (Creo) model views.

This would likely work well. Nonetheless, does anyone have any other recommendations for free sources for these images?

 

As of this writing, our organization is using Windchill 12.1.2.8.

That is what we did. You want to have a consistent look and ensure that the image is visually distinct so users can make use of the images to narrow things down.

For electrical components it was tougher. I ended up adding some bold text to make them distinguishable. Just know that you can refine this over time. Keep a cache somewhere as a resource but don't let this stall your progress.
